About the Nyx Jackets
Nyx jackets are the most jaw-dropping, fun-loving experience you are ever likely to have with an item of clothing. Ok, except for maybe lingerie. These jackets are internally wired with bright lights arranged on fully flexible panels that allow for text and graphics to dance across the surface of the garment, all computer controlled within the jacket. All you have to do is switch it on.

Who are the Jackets For?
Whether you are a clubber, an entertainer, or a sales representative, you have to get your hands on one of these jackets. They will make you more attractive. If you want to dance the night away and have your jacket do the same, just set it to sound-to-light mode and the in-built microphone and sound processor will do the rest. If you want to get your message out to the world then use a Palm Pilot to scroll text across your jacket front and back, and “get it off your chest!”

Size Dimensions
The diagram and chart below show the dimensions of the Nyx jackets. To determine your correct size, it might be a good idea to check the measurements of a jacket that you already have and that fits you well. If you find that you have ordered a size too small or too large, Nyx will forward you a replacement jacket of the proper size. Currently Nyx offers large, medium, and small sizes. Other sizes will be added soon. Please contact us for additional sizes and styles. |

What’s it Made Of?
The jackets are made up of two basic parts, the usual cloth used to make a garment and the electronics that fit inside the jacket and light it up. The garment cloth is a wrinkle-free, man-made material with low shrinkage and superior stain resistance. All colors have a matt finish allowing the lights underneath to shine through.

Standard Nyx jackets currently come in black. Custom colors are available for an additional cost.

Sound to Light
Each Nyx jacket has a microphone built into it. This allows sounds and music from the surrounding environment to be picked up and used to trigger different light patterns on the jacket. There are 5 different sound-to-light software programs in each jacket. They are spectrum, oscilloscope, chopsticks, pixies, and nature.
Each of the sound-to-light programs have a number of different variations within them for extra enjoyment. You can jump between programs and their variations using the buttons located near the front zip of the jacket.
You can also adjust the sensitivity of the microphone to compensate for loud or quiet environments, again using the buttons located near the front zip of the jacket. It’s great to see your jacket ‘dance’ to the music!

Text Display using Palm Pilot Interface
Each Nyx jacket is equipped with a Palm Pilot software interface that allows for display of scrolling text messages. The software is pre-installed on the Palm and a short manual for the operation of the Palm interface can be downloaded in pdf format from the software section of this website.
If you have a Treo mobile phone with Palm Pilot OS built in, it is then possible to access the internet and cut and paste web text onto your jacket. The text software currently serves English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian languages.

Battery Lifetime
Running the jacket from four alkaline AA batteries such as Duracell or Energizer typically allows for up to 10 hours of operation depending on the programs running during that time. The more lights that are on at any given time will use more battery power. Using rechargeable NiMH AA batteries allows for up to 8 hours of operation. The advantage of using these batteries is that they can be recharged over and over again so you do not have to throw them away. Batteries are kept within the left hand inside pocket of the jacket. There is a detachable cable that allows the battery pack to separate from the jacket for replacement of batteries and for washing. Do not attempt to directly attach your jacket to a main power source. This is highly dangerous to the jacket and to your personal safety.

Washing Instructions
The most suitable method for cleaning the Nyx jackets is a hand wash in warm soapy water as shown in the picture below. The circuits inside the jacket are all sealed against water leakage and so will not be damaged. It is important to remove the battery pack, Palm Pilot and Palm cable before washing. Drying the jacket is best achieved using a drip-dry technique, with the jacket held up by a coat-hanger. Under no circumstances should the jackets be put into a washing machine, a tumble dryer, be dry-cleaned, or ironed.

Garment Care
Nyx jackets have been rigorously tested to ensure reliable operation. The jackets have many different electronic circuits inside which do require your consideration. For example it is important not to pierce the jacket cloth in areas where the circuits are present. This may prevent correct operation and may compromise the waterproof capabilities.
Nyx advises that the user treat the garment as they would any other piece of expensive electronics, i.e., with care. Keeping the jacket on a coat-hanger or draping it over the back of a chair when not in use is likely to give a longer life to the product. Throwing the product across the room is not something you would normally consider with a computer and so Nyx recommends that you do not do this with your jacket.

Warranty
The electronics within Nyx jackets are guaranteed for 12 months from date of delivery. If any problems arise with the electronics then Nyx will replace the electronics free of charge once the old jacket is received at Nyx. Postage for returning the jacket to Nyx shall be covered by the customer. Postage for sending the replacement jacket to the customer will be covered by Nyx. There may be a time delay in replacement of the jacket depending on supply and demand. The replacement delay shall not exceed 12 weeks. The replacement delay will not count as part of the 12 month warranty period. A maximum of two replacements will be made during the warranty period.
As with other garments, Nyx cannot guarantee the cloth of the jacket. If the cloth is torn or ripped or other such damage sustained, this is not covered by the Nyx warranty.

Shipping
All shipping is currently through Federal Express (FedEx) but for international deliveries this may not always be the case. All packages shipped are fully insured up to the cost of purchase. Shipping and insurance costs are to be paid by the customer.
Purchases made within California are subject to local sales tax currently 8.25%.
Customers outside of the USA should be aware that customs duties are likely to be required at the destination country. FedEx will usually clear the package through customs and notify the customer that their package is ready for pick up from the local customs office. Customers will need to pay the outstanding duties when they go to pick up their packages at the local customs office.
